Phil and I have been looking forward to returning to Gulf Shores, Al. We left Downers Grove on December 26th, just before the snow and cold weather hit the Midwest. We selected a different area of the park for our site this year and this time have a view of the canal looking towards the gulf. With spectacular sunsets right from your camper we have not been disappointed in our choice.
Everyone brings their bicycles and we were pleasantly surprised to find five more miles of trails. Now one can bike or walk from the campground to the town of Gulf Shores or to an area of Orange Beach safely without worrying about car traffic.
We both are meeting new people and keeping busy. Besides biking and walking, I take the exercise class three mornings a week and have started line dancing. I love this activity and now after 12 classes I can actually remember steps to 8 dances. There are opportunities to dance outside of the park and I sometimes do that to. Phil is swimming at the recreation center in town, joined a photography club, starts a campfire most evenings plus his usual activities of biking/walking/taking pictures. We both enjoy the late afternoon walk around the park meeting people.
Last week we submitted an application to be volunteers at the park. If selected we will be painting the cabins and cottages. We would work 32 hours a week between the two of us, and in return we would camp free. If this happens we may have to move to another site as they keep all of the volunteers together in one area within the park. Not sure why they do that but time will tell.
The weather here has been chilly, cold, and rainy. We have had several nights of freezing temps which means adding antifreeze to the water lines and experienced an ice storm. Maybe it will be a little warmer in February!
A few photos to enjoy
