Hello again





So much has happened since I last had time or a connection to give you an update.  The redwood trees and beaches were amazing. 

 

 

 

 

 

After Mark went home Chris stayed for two more days and we explored the northern California and southern Oregon coast.  During our day trip to Brooking, OR we found beautiful driftwood, haystack rock formations with crabs, mussels, starfish and other creatures, saw several whales, a golden eagle, and a snail!  Chris braved the cold water and dried to body surf but the waves were too small.  Fun time with Chris. 

 

 

One very interesting side trip was to the Klamath River, south of Crescent City,  to watch tribal fishermen "gillnetting" for salmon. It was a foggy and chilly morning for these men and women as they set the nets, waited, cleaned the fish, and finally sold their catch.  Several refrigerator trailers were waiting at the shore. We were most fortunate that a Native American Indian was sitting on shore who explained this event to us. He could not fish as he was not native to the tribe that is allowed to fish during this time.  So he waits to see how successful his wife and son will be.  It is common to bring in $7500 worth of salmon during the month that commercial fishing is allowed.
