It's been a busy week!

We continue to enjoy this area and especially the state park.  This week has been very busy. 

Sunday we attended church and in the afternoon we "entertained" our neighbors, Tom and Ingrid from Indy.  We played cards and ate cookies.  It was nice to visit and meet new people.

Monday was our weekly visit to the farmers market for the Satsuma oranges and tomatoes.  We visited with a couple who are staying in a condo for the month of December.  They brought us over a bag of cumquat's, grown by his brother in FL.  The fruit is about the size of a walnut and looks like an orange. Tradition is to pop it, rind and all, into your mouth and chew. Interesting taste and not our favorite.  We thought about making jelly but decided to share them with other campers.  We are meeting them for lunch tomorrow at the Oyster House. 

Tuesday we went for a long bike ride.  In addition to the paved paths in the park, the roads have bike lanes and shoulders.  Since we have been here I have been riding more than when at home so I decided I wanted to ride 40 miles.  It was a warm, sunny, and windless day so we hopped on the bikes and headed west on the beach road.  Traffic was light as we headed thru the town of Gulf Shores.  The road ends at the inter coastal waterway so we turned around and headed back.  20 miles done.  The rode is lined with colorful beach houses.  Many of them are for sale and/or rental units. 

We took lunch with us and stopped at the state park to eat and rest. 



 

We continued east on the beach road towards the town of Orange Beach.   Part of that ride is along a canal. 

 

Along the way we discovered the Community Cemetery.  There were headstones dated to the early 1800's and several interesting grave markers. 

We decided this man was a contractor or construction worker.

Maybe this man was a boat captain and laid to rest with his wheel. 

As we continued the ride into the park Phil's odometer displayed only 37 miles. So we turned around, to get in the needed miles, and ended at the RV with 40.5 miles!!  It was a good ride. Not bad for a senior citizen!  After dinner off to music in the park. 

Wednesday was another beautiful day so we decided to drive to a different beach to walk.  We were in the parking lot when we saw a couple we knew from the state park.  They had left on December 1st to stay at a nearby park.  So we walked with them and decided to met back that evening for the sunset. 

 In the afternoon we took a park sponsored pontoon ride around two of the lakes.  It was very interesting listening to the rangers talking about the history of this area.

Later that evening we headed back to the beach for the sunset.  Forrest decided to fed the birds.
 
 

Today is Thursday and some of you are experiencing winter.  We have had rain and wind today and it was a perfect example of why you retract your awning during high winds. Several campers learned the hard way as their awnings were destroyed.  We drove over to our friends campground and I played dominoes with Beth and her friends while Phil visited with Forrest.  They invited us to go out for an early dinner to celebrate his birthday.  On the drive back the sun was setting.  It was another beautiful sunset.  Phil has to upload those photos so you will have to wait to see the sky!
