Day 6: The day ended better than it began!

Yesterday when we were driving down from Pike's peak there was a mandatory break check.  Our tires were running "hot", not unusual we were told, so we had to pull off and let the tires cool.  Later as we were driving Phil noticed the brake light was on.  We didn't think to much of it as it did go off before we pulled in at the campground.

Today was our day to drive to Durango.  We left at 7AM and had hoped to get there by 2:00 so we could get in a hike. Well that didn't happen as the brake light began flashing and an alarm ringing shortly after we pulled out.  But then the light/alarm would disappear.  We reached Pueblo and found a Dodge service center.  They identified the problem; faulty emergency brake cable.  When the  emergency brake was released,  it would only partially release.  We had been driving, who knows how long, with that happening.   So they fixed the cable and of course, had to do some other brake work as a result of the cable problem.

So we were there from 8:30-3:00, yep 6 1/2 hrs!  At first Phil was inside the waiting room and I was in a lawn chair reading while guarding the "RV" as the location had me worried.  After 1  1/2 hrs I was just to hot!  The mechanic said it would be fine.  We walked and stopped for lunch and came back to wait!  ]

Our long day got longer as we still had the drive ahead of us.  We finally arrived at 8:45.  First time Phil has driven at night with the RV and first time we have pulled into a campground using a flashlight to guide us into the site.  He had a bowl of cereal for supper and went straight to bed!

The drive over was spectacular but not convenient for photos.  I did snap a few pictures of the sunset
through the windshield.

Tomorrow we ride the historic, coal fired, steam-powdered train from Durango to Silverton.  Leave at 8:30am and return at 5:45pm.  Should be quite an interesting day.  Hope we are lucky to have another blue sky day!

It's great to be staying a private campgrounds that have internet connections at the sites. More tomorrow!
