Our Typical Day, In and Around Pinedale

We usually get up around 6:30 eat breakfast, pack a lunch, and head for a trail.  Our backpacks contain  lunch, 2 liters of water, rain jackets, bug spray, sun screen, bug nets, whistle, GPS, camera and tripod, cell phones, wallets, hat, light jacket, compass, maps, and for me TP and hand santizer.  Around our waist the strap holds the bear spray canisters and binoculars.  I complete our itineary, for emergency purposes, which goes on the dashboard.  It lists what trail we are hiking, approximate return time, and where to find the RV.  We also include a picture in case we are lost and someone comes looking!.  Once we get to the site we spray Deet and down the backpacks.   

Then the fun, usually fun except when short of breath due to the altitude change, begins as we see so many new things and explore all the beautiful parks.  Hiking anywhere from 5-12 miles is our goal.  We stop about every hour for a snack and then find a great spot for lunch.  There is so much to do when hiking; watch the trail so you don't trip over the rock or log, watch the sky for hawks etc, be alert for bears and make lots of noise, admire the wild flowers, talk to people that you pass, wait for Phil to take photos, admire the view, and stop to catch a breath.  Then we drive back to the campground and refill the packs, take a shower, talk to the neighbors, make dinner, clean up, load the photos (Phil), update the blog (Marsha), hope people are reading and enjoying the blog, and go to bed around 9pm!  We are tired by the end of the day.
