Downers Grove to Kimball, Nebraska with 2 repair stops!

Our departure was planned for 7AM Wednesday morning. Once Phil unplugged the electricity he discovered we had no battery power to the RV. Since we are not very “electric” savy, we had to wait for the repair shop to open and drive north for 45 minutes. A wire was loose from the battery switch box. We finally got on the road at 10:00. Not a good start for the trip.

I-80 across Iowa is lined with blooming wild flowers (not easy to stop for a photo when pulling the RV).  The corn is green and tall.  Traffic is heavy with many, many trucks.  I doubt if I will do any serious driving along the way.  We found a lovely little city park in Adair, Iowa for the night. It was quite warm and we were glad to have air conditioning. That didn’t last long. The unit stopped running and Phil couldn’t get the air to kick back on. Not good sleeping after 1AM.

Of course that meant Thursday morning we had to find another repair shop. Fortunately we located one off of I-80 and were there at 8:30. Phil explained our problem and a very nice man reset the breaker and that was it.  Too bad we didn’t think of that! The drive across the rest of Iowa and Nebraska has been uneventful. It was very hot again today so we decided to keep driving rather than stop early. When we got to within 10 miles of the campground, it rained and the temperature dropped to 65. This is a beautiful evening despite the rainstorm that came thru rather quickly while we were walking. It has been a long time since we got soaked. Of course, wet clothes hanging in the tiny bathroom that won’t dry out for 3 days!

Interesting town of Sutherland, Neb.  Like many the downtown stores have all closed.  But there are still 3 bars and the beer truck was there today.  Across is the park where we have lunch.  Wonder why so many red picnic tables are needed?  Maybe to drink all the beer!

Audio books are great to help the time pass. It is challenging to find one that we both enjoy; the story as well as the narrator. Stays much lighter now that we are on mountain time .  No bugs yet on this trip.  Tomorrow we hike in WY!
