Kankakee State Park

We spend the past 48 hrs at the Kankakee State Park.  The campsites were very shady and we almost had the park to ourselves.  The weather was beautiful, much different than the forecasts.  There is a beautiful, paved walking/biking trail.  We picked 3 containers full of wild black raspberries.Of course we had to drive to Dairy Queen for ice cream with the berries.  The bugs were minimum and only an evening rain for an hour. 

Our reason for going to the park was to see if everything would work when we camp without electricity.   Several things we discovered;  indoor lights work when using the batteries but outlets don't,  propane hot water heater would not stay lite, oven pilot light not working, and when driving home, the trailor running lights were shorting out.  So the trailor is back in the shop.  And the SUV making unusal noises that need to be addressed.  Better to know this now then when on the road in July.

Phil has added Banff and Lake Louise to our trip.  Tomorrow we will buy tickets for a rodeo in Cheyenne.  Phils loves the bull riders.  We also hope to attend the Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous in southwest WY just before we head to Salt Lake City.  

While in Kankakee, we had dinner on Monday evening with friends and then invited to breakfast at McDonald's.  We surprised Al and Jane Meyer, former owners of The Redwood Inn.  We last saw Al at mom's funeral.  My mom. her mom and brother, and several of us kids all had worked there.  They were so happy to see us and wanted updates on the Timm's!
