We decided to complete the drive in one day as the campground, just outside of Mt. Rainer National Park, could take us a day early. We were anxious to arrive as the last time we were at this park it was covered in 10 feet of snow! The weather was good and another blue sky day! Part of the drive was on the White Pass Scenic Byway. There was a "bike event" and Phil was glad he was not riding up the mountain road highway.
Finally we could get a glimpse of Mt. Rainer!
This campground is 1/2 mile from the entrance to the park and the most expensive we have stayed at, $40 per night. There are no places to just pull over and "dry dock" and the park itself cannot accommodate the larger RV's. Since it is close we will save money on gas so it is worth it. Our site is quite nice nestled in the trees and was easy to back into.
Our hike today was 1400 feet elevation gain and around 8 miles. Billions of wildflowers lined the trail, there was snow to be crossed, creeks to be passed, and the Sky Line trail is now added to one of our all time favorites. Mt Hood and Mt Saint Helen's could be seen in the distance.
It's been a great day!
