We still are surprised

Phil and I still cannot believe we were able to climb 2400 feet yesterday.  Kudos to us!

We are in Stanley, ID about one hour north of Ketchum where we were yesterday.  We waited to leave this morning until we called the Ranger Station.  ID has active forest fires but the closest one is about 150 miles away.  There was one last week that is 100% contained which was minutes outside of Stanley.  At that time the campground was evacuated.

People told us the drive today was going to be a steady stream of cars.  We were lucky if 40 cars passed us during the drive.  Maybe the fires frightened some tourist away.  No problems crossing over the mountai pass.  Kind of cloudy so not the best views.  We are in a private campground behind the office.  Not a pretty place to be for 3 days.  We really don't understand the National Park Service reservation system as we saw several empty sites that we could have gotten into even though the ranger had said just this morning nothing was open. So instead of a beautiful lake view we have a cafe/office view and trailers very close on each side.  Oh well.

We did take a short hike today.  It was amazing to watch the sky go from blue to cloudy to dark clouds back to blue etc.  There was just a little light rain.  The cafe was serving prime rib for dinner, and since Phil thought his iron count might be a little low ie short of breath on the trail, I told him to go for it.  The power was out in this entire area for about two hours but the cafe was open.  He said it was delicious.   We are happy power was restored otherwise we would have to listen to generators running all night keeping their food cold.

Sorry no photos tonight.  There is no way to upload photos from the laptop to the iPad where I have a connection, at least for this moment.  You will just have to stay tuned for more pictures.  And by the way no wrong directions today or backing up problems !
