Early start to my date

Sometimes I don't sleep well and this is the first night on the trip I could not get back to sleep.  Might as well work on photos and update the blog.

Below is a picture of a Yurt that was available for rent at the Snowy Mountain Campground at City of  Rocks.  Some of you may remember our son Mark, had helped erect a yurt in California.  I wonder if it looked something like this:

We were surprised the door was unlocked so we went inside.

We arrived in Ketchum yesterday afternoon and will be here 2 nights.  We are in a private campground and trailers are very close together. Phil was unable to make reservations in the national parks, even 6 months in advance.  However this park is in a good location to the trails.  After unhitching and making lunch we headed to the Ranger Station for information.  The terrain is different than we imagined and were informed this area is considered sub-alpine so lots of rocks and shrub type plants.  We wanted to stay close by as it was 5 pm and discovered this trail on the outskirts of Ketchum.  Easy flat trail with 435 elevation also used by mountain bikers.  I know they were working harder than we were.

The hike lead to the remains of the Tracy Homestead.

This tree caught my attention.  Thankfully we don't see initials and information carved on trees to often.  This entire trip we have been impressed with all of the hikers that have carried out what they brought it.

Getting back to my post from yesterday I mentioned about our trip to Ketchum.  It was to have been a short drive from City of the Rocks.  We meet a couple who mentioned we should stop at Twin Falls, ID and see Snake River Canyon.

Since it was on the way we decided to find it.  Wrong idea! We had been told to go 5 miles south out of town.  We had noticed a canyon just as you entered the town but there were no signs identifing this as Snake River.  So we kept driving and ended up on the Business loop which added more mileage and got us to far south.  So once again I got on my phone and called for directions.  Guess what, the canyon we first saw was the one we were looking for.  There was no place to park as we had the RV so we just drove past it.  Looks like a nice place to drive or hike to the bottom but we kept driving.

Oh, I forgot to mention we accidently drove into an apartment complex and had to back out.  We are getting into these situations way to often!  The walkie-talkies worked great and Phil did an excellent job backing from one parking area to another so we could get turned around.

If anyone knows of a navigations site that includes directions to national and state parks please let me know.  Seems like "places of interest" do not care to list those.

Almost time to wake Phil up as we want to get an early start today.  Going for a hike that could be difficult due to elevation gain but the views are supposed to be amazing.  We'll see how we do!!
